Snowbirds and Deacons

                                                A white scarf,

                                                wrapped about the neck of the world,

                                                muffles all sound

                                                but for the fall

                                                of  birds’ feet;

                                                as they move

                                                like church deacons

                                                from place to spot

                                                searching for some morsel

                                                of salvation.
